What counts as a member seat?
A member seat is any user who can log in to your workspace and interact with projects. The first seat is always free, and every additional seat costs $12/month. Deactivated members do not count toward your seat total.
How does the SupportLayer integration work?
If you also use SupportLayer, you can link your accounts via an API key. Support agents can push tickets to your ProjectLayer backlog with one click. Items appear with a link back to the original ticket. Your team then triages the backlog and converts accepted items into full tasks.
Can I have multiple projects in one workspace?
Yes. You can create as many projects as you need. Each project gets its own board, task keys, milestones, and label set. Team members can be assigned to specific projects with different permission levels.
Is there a Kanban board?
Absolutely. Every project comes with a Kanban board with default columns (To Do, In Progress, Done). Tasks can be moved between columns, and moving a task to a "complete" column automatically updates its status.
Do you have an API?
Yes. ProjectLayer provides a full REST API. You can create and update tasks, manage projects, query milestones, and more. API tokens can be scoped per workspace for security.
Can I import data from other tools?
You can use the REST API to script migrations from other tools. Create projects, tasks, and backlog items programmatically. If you need help migrating, our support team can assist.
What happens when I hit my milestone deadline?
Milestones show a progress bar based on completed vs. open tasks. When the target date arrives, you will see which tasks are still open. You can close the milestone or extend the date — ProjectLayer does not auto-close milestones.
Is there a free plan?
Your first member seat is always free with full access to every feature — no credit card required. When you add a second member, that seat and each additional seat costs $12/month.
Will I get notified about task changes?
Yes. ProjectLayer sends email notifications when tasks are assigned to you, when someone comments on your tasks, and when task statuses change. Each user can control which notifications they receive from the Profile & Notifications page.
Is there a reports dashboard?
Yes. Administrators can access a reports page that shows tasks by status, priority, and project, as well as team workload distribution and overdue task counts. All reports are included on every plan.
Do you support white-label branding?
Yes. You can upload your own logo, set your brand colors, and optionally use a custom domain. This is great for agencies or SaaS products that want to offer project tracking under their own brand.
How do I manage team permissions?
Each organization comes with three default roles: Administrator (full control), Member (create and manage projects and tasks), and Viewer (read-only). You can also create custom access groups with any combination of 14 granular permissions. Members can be invited by email with a specific role, and roles can be changed at any time from the Team Members page.
