ProjectLayer

Your first seat is free — forever, on every feature

Every task has an owner.
Every board tells the truth.

ProjectLayer is project management for developers who ship, not just plan. Kanban or Scrum boards with live status, a client portal your customers actually use, bug reports straight from Sentry and SupportLayer, and a Claude Code loop that builds the tasks it's given.

No card. No sales call. Live in under two minutes.

What ProjectLayer does

Everything ships from one board

Not a tool you configure for a quarter. A tracker that arrives with sensible defaults and gets out of your way.

See the whole board

Open work, blocked tasks, and what shipped today on one screen. Nothing to dig for.

Keep status honest

Status changes the moment work moves — on the board, from the API, or from Claude Code. No stale tickets.

Fit the team

Administrators, members, viewers, testers — and your clients in their own area. Each one sees exactly their own slice.

Catch the whole pipeline

Client requests, Sentry errors and SupportLayer tickets land in one Intake queue. Triage them into tasks on the same board.

The Claude Code loop

Turn a task into shipped code

Most trackers stop at the plan. Press Plan with Claude on any task and Claude reads your connected GitHub repo, asks clarifying questions if it needs them, and writes a build plan onto the task.

Claude Code — running in your own terminal — then discovers planned tasks over the REST API, reads the plan, and builds the work in your codebase. No copy-pasting a spec between tools.

  • Claude reads your connected GitHub repo before it writes a plan
  • Claude Code discovers planned tasks over the REST API
  • Status lands on the board the moment work changes — live, with no refresh needed

  2. Rotate + persist the refresh token
  3. Cover it with a functional test

The client portal

Bring your clients in, without letting them loose

Building for clients? Give each one a branded area of their own. They send requests, talk to your project manager, follow progress in plain language, and test each release before they sign it off.

They only ever see the work you choose to share. Boards, sprints, estimates, internal notes and comments stay with your team. Clients never take a seat.

  • Requests land in your Intake with who asked; declines come with a reason
  • One conversation per request, with internal notes the client never sees
  • Acceptance testing step by step, with screenshots and formal sign-off

Roles and seats

One simple seat price, and your clients are free

Your first seat is free, for good. After that, everyone on your team takes a seat at the same price, whatever their role: administrators, members, viewers, testers and test managers.

Your clients never do. Invite as many client contacts as you like to the client portal; they see their own projects and nothing else, and they don't add a penny to the bill.

The full list

Everything your team needs, nothing they don't

Every item below is on every account, including the free one. There is no upgrade path because there is nothing to upgrade to.

Kanban boards

Visualize your workflow with ordered columns. Move tasks between stages and auto-update statuses. Every board updates live.

Scrum mode

Switch any project to Scrum: a ranked Product Backlog, sprints with goals, a Definition of Done enforced on every path to Done, and Increments.

Epics & user stories

Group stories, bugs and tasks under epics with live progress by items and story points. Epics can't close while work inside is unfinished.

Task management

Assign, prioritize, and track every task. Subtasks, blockers, watchers, @mentions, time logging, story points and CSV import and export included.

Intake: Sentry & SupportLayer

Sentry errors and SupportLayer tickets flow into Intake automatically. Resolve a Sentry issue on either side and the other follows.

Client portal

A branded area for your clients: requests, conversations with internal notes kept private, plain-language progress, and release sign-off. Clients are free.

Testing & acceptance

Plain-language test steps on every task, test cases, suites and cycles for QA, and client acceptance testing with formal sign-off.

Milestones & releases

Group tasks into milestones with target dates. See progress at a glance and stay on track.

Team collaboration

Threaded comments, notifications and role-based permissions, with custom access groups when the defaults don't fit.

Custom labels

Color-coded labels to categorize tasks your way. Filter your boards in a click.

API & webhooks

A full REST API with scoped keys, plus signed webhooks when tasks change. Automate workflows and build your own integrations.

Audit trail

Full history of every change. Know who did what, when, with a complete activity log per task.

Notifications

In-app and email notices when tasks are assigned, commented on, mention you, or change status. Choose which emails you get.

Two-factor sign-in

Authenticator-app codes with one-time recovery codes, checked once per session.

Reports & analytics

Tasks by status, priority, type and project, cycle time, throughput and velocity. Scheduled reports land in your inbox.

Search & filters

Find tasks instantly. Filter by status, priority, assignee, or search by title across any project.

Your branding

Your logo and brand colours across the portal and the client portal, including client invitations. Your clients see your name, not ours.

Plan with Claude

Turn any task into a repo-aware build plan. Claude reads your GitHub repo and writes the steps — then Claude Code can build it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about ProjectLayer.

What counts as a seat?
Every active person on your team takes a seat, whatever their role: administrator, member, viewer, tester or test manager. Your first seat is always free, and each additional seat costs $15/mo. Suspended members don't count, and client contacts in the client portal never take a seat.
How does the SupportLayer integration work?
If you also use SupportLayer, you can link your accounts via an API key. Support agents can push tickets to your ProjectLayer Intake with one click. Items appear with a link back to the original ticket. Your team then triages Intake and converts accepted items into full tasks.
What is the Claude Code integration?
Press Plan with Claude on a task and Claude writes a build plan, reading your connected GitHub repo for context. Claude Code — running in your own terminal — then discovers planned tasks over the REST API, reads the plan, builds the work in your codebase, and marks the task in progress and done as it goes. See the Claude Code docs for setup.
Is there a free plan?
Your first seat is always free with full access to every feature — no credit card required. When you add a second person to your team, that seat and each additional seat costs $15/mo.
Can I use my own branding?
Yes. Upload your logo and set your brand colours in Settings → Branding. They're used across the portal and the client portal (including the page clients accept their invitation on), and your colours are used in emails. Custom domains aren't available yet.
What can my clients see?
Only what you share. Each client sees their own projects in the client portal: their requests, the tasks you mark as visible to them (with a plain-language summary you write), release progress, and the replies you send. Internal notes, comments, assignees, estimates, boards and sprints stay with your team. See the client portal docs.
Does ProjectLayer support Scrum?
Yes. Any project can switch from Kanban to Scrum, which adds a Scrum team with Product Owner, Scrum Master and Developers, a ranked Product Backlog, sprints with goals, a Definition of Done checked on every path to Done, and an Increment per sprint. See the Scrum docs.
Can errors from Sentry become tasks?
Yes. Connect a project to a Sentry Internal Integration and new issues arrive in that project's Intake, ready to accept, reject or turn into tasks. Resolve the issue in Sentry and the item follows; give ProjectLayer a token and resolving it here resolves it in Sentry too. See the Sentry docs.
